Considering the addition of a new dog to your family? Whether someone at home has a dog allergy or you just hate to see your furniture covered in hair, here are the top seven dog breeds that don’t shed (much).
Maltese Terrier
Though super fluffy and cuddly, Maltese actually shed quite little and are very playful, loving, and friendly.
Bichon Frise
Similar in looks to Maltese Terriers, Bichon Frises are also playful and merry and have a puffy, white, hypoallergenic coat. Though the Bichon Frise breed does have a double coat, they do not shed, especially with proper grooming.
Yorkshire Terrier
Also, a small lapdog, the Yorkshire Terrier (or “Yorkie”) is well-known for being hypoallergenic. Though their hair is on the longer side, they do not shed and are loyal companions.
Coton de Tulear
While Coton de Tulears do require regular grooming appointments in order to maintain their “shed-free” coat, these sweet, easy-tempered dogs make great additions to any home.
Havanese
Havanese will not shed much and are perfect for those with allergies. They are also super smart, affectionate, and approachable and are great for families with kids.
Poodle
Poodles — whether standard, miniature, or toy size — do shed a tiny amount (though nothing remotely close to huskies or labs, for example). Plus, if you brush their hair at least once per week, you’ll notice a great reduction in even the small amount of hair buildup.
Schnauzer
Though their outer coat is long and wiry, loyal schnauzers — miniatures and standards — are at the low end of the shedding spectrum.
