We love our dogs. It’s estimated that there are almost 90 million of our tail-wagging friends living with us in the US. And we love our cocktails. Why not combine these two loves? Here are several delicious drinks named after our canine companions.
A Sunset Drink With Your Favorite Companion
There’s nothing like curling up on the sofa or sitting outside on your deck enjoying the early evening air, with your favorite canine. Adding a delicious cocktail makes it even more enjoyable. So how about adding a cocktail with a canine twist? That tall and lanky greyhound is a great name for a tall drink – the Greyhound – a drink made with Vodka and grapefruit juice. Use Tito’s, the dog-lovers vodka.
Fun With Dogs and Cocktails
Cocktail lovers who love dogs have clearly had a lot of fun naming their favorite drinks. The Pomeranian, for instance, is made with pomegranate juice. And if you love bulldogs with their smooshed in faces, you’ll know why the drink named after them is called The Bulldog Smash. And of course tequila comes to mind when making The Salty Chihuahua. Have you seen reruns of Three’s Company? Then you’ll love The Regal Beagle! If your special dog has moments of craziness or loves to chew your stuff you’ll think of him or her when you are sipping a Devil Dog cocktail. Some cocktails are even named after the breed itself. Want to raise a glass to your Bichon Frise? Combine an ounce of vodka, an ounce of St-Germain elderflower liqueur and two ounces of red grapefruit juice. Shake with ice and a lemon wedge and kick back and enjoy.

Taking it Further
Some dog lovers have taken their love of alcoholic drinks further and have named their dogs after their favorite drink. Here are some of the top names from 2019. Number one goes to Whiskey, followed by Porter, Guinness, Brandy and Amber. Hooch and Tipsy come in at numbers 14 and 24 respectively. Can you imagine yourself in your backyard calling Schnapps or Bloody Mary to come inside?
