Dr. Tim Kennemer was raised in Edmond and has been taking care of its cats and dogs since the founding of Sunset Veterinary Clinic in 1996. As part of the community, Dr. Kennemer delights in serving multiple members and generations of Edmond families, and seeing children of clients grow up, become pet owners and start their own families.
Dr. Kennemer attended Ida Freeman Elementary School and graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1978. The following year he married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Gale. From a young age, he enjoyed animals, the applied sciences and solving problems, which made veterinary medicine an ideal career choice. Dr. Kennemer received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 1987.
Serving Country, Community and Companion Animals
He joined the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps in 1988 and served until 1991 within the 101st Airborne division. As part of the Veterinary Corps, Dr. Kennemer worked with the military’s working dogs and horses, in addition to responsibilities related to public health. Serving as a military vet provided the ultimate general practice experience, as well as a great perspective on how pets and animals fit into our larger society.
Following his military service, Dr. Kennemer lived in Clarksville, Tennessee and worked at a local small-animal clinic as an associate veterinarian until 1996. He and Teresa returned to Edmond in 1996 to establish Sunset Veterinary Clinic. They have successfully raised three sons: Shaun, Tyler and Michael. Two of their boys currently serve in the U.S. military.
Prevention is the Best Medicine
A problem-solver at heart, Dr. Kennemer takes great satisfaction in solving challenging cases so that beloved pets are healthy and active again. His favorite part of the job is when families and children bring in new kittens and puppies, and he can help them learn how to take good care of them. Educating pet owners on how to head off problems before they start keeps their pets happier and healthier while avoiding preventable costly care down the road.
Dr. Kennemer welcomes your questions and the opportunity to take care of your four-legged friends.
