Dr. Michelle Casey is a native Oklahoman who grew up in Mustang and has resided in Edmond since she graduated veterinary school from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Dr. Casey believes in medical advocacy and collaborative medicine to ensure her patients get quality health care. She feels strongly that client communication is one of the most powerful parts of medicine to solidify the relationship between veterinarians and their clientele.
Sincere Love and Connection with Animals
She discovered a sincere love and connection with animals as a young child and was the one who would sneak strays in her backyard so she could find a home for them or ride around the neighborhood posting up homemade signs about a lost dog. There was a time when she picked up a wondering dog and carried the little dog while riding her bike to the address on the collar. The relief and grateful reaction from the owner ignited something in her third -grade heart that day and she knew she was supposed to effectuate the human-animal bond. This combined with her attraction for science led her to become a veterinarian.
After graduating from OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Casey has worked both in a 24-hour emergency clinic as well as a general practice within the last 18 years. Those experiences helped mold her interests to preventative medicine, dermatology, internal medicine and fear free medicine which involves taking steps to reduce fear, anxiety and stress associated with visits to the veterinary hospital.
In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Casey enjoys a variety of activities. Her and her husband like to scuba dive which helps satisfy Dr. Casey’s passion for the ocean and marine mammals. Prior to graduating veterinary school, she participated in a one-month internship with SeaWorld veterinarians learning about marine mammal medicine. Her family enjoys outdoor activities together such as snow skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding and hiking. Her family is active in church and participates in various church activities and classes. She finds joy in writing, reading, baking, spending time on the ball fields and in the gym watching her kids play softball, baseball and cheer.
Born and Raised as a Sooner
Dr. Casey was born and raised as a sooner but has since then become a loyal cowboy fan during her time at OSU. She met her husband Brent at OSU and they dated through college. Brent is an education administrator for a career and technology center and is an active advocate across the state and nation for Oklahoma education. They celebrated 22 years of marriage this summer. She retreats home to her husband and three children. Their oldest daughter, Cayman is 13 years old, son Cohen is 10 years old and youngest daughter, Clairen just turned 8. Also included in the Casey family is their beloved golden retriever named Murphy (who is known for his hilarious Chewbacca sounds), a carrot loving guinea pig named Izzy B. Pig, a very round Pacman frog, Cody, a small flock of spoiled pet chickens and a rescued box turtle they call Smidge.
